no insurance

I'm reluctant to go to doctor since I lack health insurance so my wife had a talk to her doctor and decided to put me on a new type of insulin. But I'm sort of at a loss right now, and sure that the dosage/instructions given by her is no good. She put me on the Lantus Solostar pen with order of taking 4 units in the morning once a day and that’s it. But I know this is wrong, I've read on here the doses are anywhere from 11-34ish as well as another type of insulin on top of that.

Please guide me ----she is wrong isn’t it?

I feel, may be i am gonna fired from my job. I will be without insurance, and if that happens I'll be in dire straights.
I pay $ 280.00 a month in co-pays on meds. Without insurance, i have to pay about 80.00 per vial of rapid insulin alone. My expense on insulin alone will be $320.00. Instead of a 15.00 co-pay for the doctor, around 200.00 for 1 visit . As far as pump supplies, I have about a 4 month cushion on those.
The best think i can ever do after i loose my job is to take medi-cal which is proove boon to those with no or less income.

Quite rubbishto hear this, but I am happy to share with you what dose of Levemir I take for my body size i.e. 51 kilograms (112 lbs), just for comparison sake.
I take 6 units morning & 6 units evening (total 12 units) of Levemir
Plus I am on NovoRapid to cover meals

The thumb rule is that, with normal insulin sensitivity, we require about .5 unit of insulin per Kg of body weight per day. And about half of that needs to be long acting, like Lantus. Say if you weigh 50 kg and not produce insulin then your dosage should be 25 units out of that 12.5 units should be Lantus.

I am type 1 since long so can say that only 4 units of lantus is really a planned murder.
