my story- as a diabetic.

I born in the family with diabetes as a inborn label to everyone. I was diagnosed as type 1 when i was 3. I was very lean and my mother was not able to recognize the cause behind it. One noon when i was unconscious, taken to the hospital when i was declared as a diabetic. Since that day i know insulin. It was one of the few words which i was able to speak at that age. I also had a sister who had diabetes like me, but her case was not much complicated. Soon after her birth doctor started monitoring her blood glucose level and she was found to be positive.
None our family took care of our diabetes, so I did not have good role models. My grandma died of heart attack, my granpa was on bed for 3 years before he died. He underwent 13 surgeries for heart, gangrene, prostate, amputation etc. I am vigilant about my rising blood sugar. I became more serious after my heart attack. All i can share with my diabetic friends is my bad experience of diabetic life. Diabetes is silent but deadly.I was just wondering how long you have had diabetes and when were you diagnosed? I was diagnosed very young. I am now 52. I would share my experience in my next post.
But, I would like to hear your story of when and how you found out you had diabetes, and how long you have had diabetes. Do you have the support of family? I want to know YOUR story. Thanks

Hi,
your life story is very sorrowful. I had similar prob what you faced in my childhood. Although i am 33 year younger than you, but never got a diabetic companion in my school. Actually i am a small city near dallas. My parents were very poor and illiterate. I was no lucky to check my blood sugar periodically with these glucose meter. Just took help of my body signals to identify my hypos and hypers.
