Gestational diabetes is the high blood sugar when the female is pregnant. This situation is of high risk. And this diabetes is of temporary status. Gestational diabetes does not stay after the pregnancy. And thus it is called as gestational diabetes. However, in such a case, the chances of getting diabetes at the later stage of life rise. The situation in gestational diabetes is that the insulin levels fall short for the sugar usage and this affects the unborn baby too. So, for pregnant ladies with gestational diabetes, diet plays a vital role to keep the sugar levels in normal range. To get a proper gestational diabetes diet, you must go to your dietitian. You must keep a watch on the carbohydrate intake every single day as it helps you to keep your health fit and fine. You must choose the diet, which is high in fiber. There are even websites which gives you the detailed servings of the food that you must intake. There are even books of gestational diabetes diet. You will have to take care of your diet, fitness regime and medicines when you have gestational diabetes. When the female is diagnosed with gestational diabetes, the patient is treated with normal diabetic diet.

According to me you should go for blood test for diagnosing of type 2 diabetes. The preferred test for it is the fasting plasma glucose test. The test requires an eight-hour fast (no food or drink except water), after which your blood will be drawn. It is usually done in the morning.

You can also go for the next test of diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, which is random plasma glucose test. This test can be done at any time of the day and an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT; blood draws taken at intervals up to three hours after a patient consumes a drink of 75 grams of glucose).

If any of the test confirm diabetes means you are correct and if not then you can think you are very lucky.

yeah if you got stuck with gestational diabetes then you have about 25% chance of type 2 diabetes in future. I ended up with GD pretty badly & and you know i have a strong family history so i will be at higher risk as told by my doctor. Its very crazy but i prefer to take insulin dose thrice a day rather than holding up with my carbs.

When i went for test it wasn't too bad. I had no absolutely no problem drinking glucose dose for the 1hr in fact enjoyed it. The 3hr one was not the same experience as got so sick from that!

Hi,
I am 22 week pregnant and diagnosed as GD 2 weeks before. I am asked my diabetes educator to restrict 30 carbs at breakfast, which is impossible to get full for 4 days, so i found myself crazy to find out recipes with really low carb. To my surprise, I have discovered that some sort of chicen or turkey at breakfast really helps fill me up. Here are two breakfast plans that I've had great success with:

1/2 cup of Cheerios (10 carbs), 1 4-oz cup of Dannon Carb control yogurt (3 carbs), 1 turkey sandwich with extra veggies and no mayonnaise, and water or Crystal Light orange or grapefruit flavor drink (satisfies the juice craving!)

Or, if I want milk for breakfast, I'll eat 2 scrambled eggs with onion, peppers, sausage, and cheese, 1 slice of toast with peanut butter (15 carbs) and a 10 ounce glass of milk (15 carbs).

Eat turkey and chicken and plenty of vegies - and eat every carb allotted to you at each snack and meal and you'll feel more satisfied.
